Sybil Allen is a licensed therapist with a culturally-informed approach to supporting her clients.
I am inspired by the enormous teaching moments that spending time in nature provides. We can learn important life lessons about creating balance in our lives from simply observing the natural world around us. Life challenges provide opportunities for harnessing our strengths and shaping the beauty of our well-being.
The central pillars that inform my counselling practice begin with facilitating your understanding of trauma, the influence of your culture and the cognitive behavioural lenses you use to view the world. An integration of this intersection can lead to a re-establishment of connection and community, which is critical to a life well lived.
I incorporate a range of techniques from a myriad of counselling modalities such as emotionally focused, cognitive behavioural therapy, person-centred and nature-based therapy. Blending these elements creates a holistic and person-centred approach for each client. Our life journeys have different paths and unique ways in which we can learn to honour our spiritual and emotional health.
We create a safe, brave space for you to accomplish the goals you have for your own well-being. I welcome the privilege of being your guide on this journey.
About Sybil
Sybil served as a Clinical Social Worker in Guelph during the heightof the HIV and AIDS epidemic. This work included caring for clients and supporting colleagues in their provision of care that addressed the unique needs of minority ethnic and new immigrant clients. This critical period of traumas and indignity for many was integral to Sybil’s future work in other long-term and palliative care organizations, providing care, community education, and leadership from within the institutions to promote human-centred culturally-adaptive support for clients.
As more organizations understood the imperative of equity and inclusion in their processes and cultures, Sybil’s clients have included academic, corporate, non-profit, and public institutions in Canada and in the Eastern Caribbean. She leads clients through assessment and training, with a trauma-informed focus on equity, inclusion, anti-exclusion, and anti-Black racism. She has also been a Professor and Director of Academic Advising related to behavioural sciences.
Sybil’s emotionally and culturally aware approach to consulting has enabled courageous, empathetic, and sustainable change. She addresses organizational wellness needs by helping clients focus on what works within their current workplace culture and facilitating the development of inclusive leadership competencies at all levels of the structure.
Sybil has a PhD in Organizational Psychology, a Master of Social Work, and is a registered Clinical Social Worker. Her professional and lived experiences combine with a powerful personal mandate to establish equity, inclusion, and respect for all.
